What Are You Holding On To?
Originally shared February 27, 2025 in the Naked Sunday Newsletter. Adapted for the journal.

What if the thing you’re clinging to is the very thing keeping you stuck?
We all do it. We hold on too long. To relationships, jobs, habits, identities—things we’ve outgrown but refuse to release.
Not because they’re right for us, but because they’re familiar and comfortable.
But the truth:
You can’t step into the best version of yourself while clinging to the past.
Letting go isn’t just about releasing the old. It’s about making space for what’s next.
It’s about trusting yourself enough to stop gripping what no longer fits and stepping into something greater—even when you don’t know exactly what that looks like yet.
And yeah, it’s uncomfortable. That’s why most people stay where they are. They convince themselves it’s not that bad. That they should be grateful. That they can make it work.
But deep down, they know.
They know that the job, the relationship, the routine, the version of themselves they’ve been clinging to is holding them back.
Every time you level up, something has to be left behind. Old habits, old mindsets, old ways of showing up.
It’s not easy, but it’s necessary.
So ask yourself:
What am I afraid will happen if I let go?
What’s the cost of staying the same?
If I fully trusted myself, what would I do next?
When you have the courage to face those questions, you’ll find the clarity to move forward.
And when you finally let go of what’s weighing you down, you’ll wonder why you held on so long in the first place.
