Get Out of Your Own Way
Originally shared November 7, 2024 in the Naked Sunday Newsletter. Adapted for the journal.

What if the biggest limitation to your success is… YOU?
I want to share the number one reason most people don’t reach their potential—and how you can change that.
Look at the people who are crushing it in life and business. They’ve figured something out.
But it’s not about grinding 24/7.
It’s not about controlling every little detail.
It’s not about doing it all solo.
Their secret? They’ve learned to get out of their own way.
We all want growth.
We want our bank accounts to grow.
We want more freedom—to do what we want, when we want, with whom we want.
We crave deeper connections and better relationships.
But here’s the hard truth: the biggest thing holding you back is you.
We cling to old beliefs about ourselves that no longer serve us.
We resist asking for help because we think it makes us look weak or less independent.
We try to control everything, micromanaging every aspect of our lives.
We close ourselves off, afraid that being vulnerable will lead to getting hurt—especially if we’ve been burned before.
But this mindset is like trying to run with a parachute strapped to your back.
You’re not just slowing down; you’re dragging yourself through the mud.
Those who are thriving have embraced a different approach.
They realize that leaning on others isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s a strength.
By letting others support them in areas they’re less passionate about or not experts in, they free up time and energy to focus on what they truly love.
In fitness, they’ve stopped punishing their bodies to fit some outdated ideal and started training in ways that feel good now.
In business, they’ve let go of micromanaging and started empowering their teams, sparking creativity and growth.
In relationships, they’ve taken the leap to be vulnerable, opening the door to deeper love and connection.
So, how do you get out of your own way?
Here’s how:
Admit You’re Holding Yourself Back
Recognize that stubbornness and clinging to old beliefs aren’t helping you. Acknowledging this is the first step toward change.
Embrace Support
Start asking for help. Collaborate. Let others shine in their areas of expertise so you can focus on yours.
Let Go of Old Self-Images
Reevaluate the standards you’re holding yourself to. Are they still relevant, or just outdated expectations weighing you down?
Be Vulnerable
Open up in your relationships. Sure, it’s scary, but the potential for real connection makes it worth the risk.
Focus on Your Strengths
Dive deeper into what you’re passionate about. When you concentrate on your strengths, everything else starts to click.
Release Control
Trust that things can get done without you overseeing every detail. This not only frees you but also empowers others.
It’s time to stop sabotaging yourself.
Let go of those old beliefs dragging you down.
Stop trying to do everything on your own.
Embrace the power of collaboration and openness.
You’ll not only achieve more but also find greater fulfillment—and you’ll wonder why you didn’t make these changes sooner.
