Come Back to the Habits That Worked
Originally shared June 26, 2025 in the Naked Sunday Newsletter. Adapted for the journal.

When’s the last time you really checked in on your habits?
Not the ideal version in your head (remember when you were firing on all cylinders?)… but what you’re actually doing each day right now?
The reason you’re stuck is not because you’re missing out on some magical new tactic.
It’s because you’re not doing the basics that got you here in the first place.
When I meet with new clients, they’re high performers but they can’t seem to get over the hump in some area of their life.
Not because they don’t care.
Not because they’re lazy.
But because they forgot.
They got distracted by something new.
A new goal. A new routine.
Some shiny “better” way to get results.
Or just life threw them a curveball and they never adapted.
But they stopped doing what actually worked…
The BASICS.
Here’s the thing:
Most people only remember the peak when they felt their best.
But they forget the consistency that got them there.
It wasn’t one big thing.
It was the little things, done over and over.
The resistance around going back to those simple things is the ego, comparing yourself the former “better you.”
In that self-judgement, you either avoid it all together, or try some other new extreme route that fizzles out right away.
So…
If you’ve been feeling off, ask yourself:
Am I still doing the basics?
Or did I stop doing the stuff that helped me feel good in the first place?
If you’re not sure, try this:
Pick one thing and track it for a week.
Just one.
Sleep. Water. Walks. Journaling. Whatever your go-to is.
Why?
Paying attention helps you notice what you’re actually doing—and where you can make a change.
You don’t need a fancy plan…
you just need awareness.
You don’t need to do more.
You just need to come back to what works for you.
You’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll feel so much more motivation and momentum from such simple shifts.
