Choosing How You Respond
Originally shared September 5, 2024 in the Naked Sunday Newsletter. Adapted for the journal.

I was re-listening to the audiobook version of The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer the other day, and one quote really hit home:
“You have to realize that you really only have one choice in this life. And it’s not about your career, whom you want to marry, or whether you want to seek God. People tend to burden themselves with so many choices. But in the end, you can throw it all away and just make one basic, underlying decision: Do you want to be happy, or do not want to be happy? It’s really that simple. Once you make that choice, your path through life becomes totally clear.”
Happiness—it’s not just something that happens to you. It’s a choice you make every single day.
Like anyone, you face challenges, disappointments, and setbacks. But as I listened to Singer’s words, I was reminded that the real question isn’t about what happens to you; it’s about how you respond.
Do you choose to hold onto the pain, the anger, the frustration? Or do you choose to let it go and embrace happiness instead?
This week, I’m inviting you to make a conscious choice: Are you choosing to be happy?
It’s not about pretending everything is perfect—it’s about choosing to prioritize your well-being and let go of what no longer serves you.
Happiness is in your hands.
What will you choose today?
