Change Starts With How You See Yourself
Originally shared April 17, 2025 in the Naked Sunday Newsletter. Adapted for the journal.

Most people try to improve by doing more.
More workouts.
More productivity hacks.
More discipline.
But here’s the real problem:
Your life is built around your self-concept.
There’s a line from the book Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maxwell Maltz that says:
“The self-image sets the boundaries of individual accomplishment. Expand the self-image and you expand the area of the possible.”
What this means:
You can’t change your life without changing how you see yourself.
If you don’t believe you’re worthy of rest, you’ll never slow down.
If you see yourself as a failure, you’ll find ways to prove it.
If your self-image is wrapped up in being the savior, the overachiever, the one who always holds it together—guess what kind of life you’ll build?
One that reinforces that identity. Even if it’s burning you out.
That’s why the real transformation starts with shifting your internal story.
This is the foundation of the work I do with clients.
It all comes back to three core elements:
Mindset: Rewiring the beliefs and identity driving your behavior.
Habits: Taking daily action that reinforces who you actually want to be.
Accountability: Surrounding yourself with systems, structure, and people who support the new version of you.
When you shift your identity, your entire life follows.
You stop chasing change and start living in alignment.
You stop forcing habits and start becoming the person who naturally lives that way.
Want to change your life?
Start with who you believe you are.
